SAN DIEGO, 11 Oct. 2005. U.S. Navy officials are asking engineers at the Northrop Grumman Unmanned Systems division in San Diego to design a shipboard control station for the Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
Officials at the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md., are awarding Northrop Grumman a $5.8 million contract modification to design, build, and test the new control station. The contract number is N00019-00-C-0277.
The new Fire Scout shipboard control station will help the UAV operate from a littoral combat ship.
Work will be in Owego, N.Y., and San Diego, and is to be finished by June 2006.
