Army asking to armored vehicles systems integrators to join VICTORY vetronics standards group

WARREN, Mich. – U.S. Army armored vehicles experts are reaching out to industry to encourage additional companies involved in vetronics design to join an open-systems working group that develops industry standards for vetronics components, subsystems, and platforms interoperability.

Officials of the Army Contracting Command at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., are inviting companies not already involved to attend the next meeting of the VICTORY standards body Dec. 13 and 14 at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Mich.

VICTORY stands for Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability. C4ISR/EW stands for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance/electronic warfare.

The December meeting will focus on updating industry on the latest evolutions of VICTORY standards, encourage new companies and government agencies to participate in the VICTORY working groups, and update industry on the latest Army vetronics programs implementing VICTORY open-systems standards on how to build C4ISR/EW and related mission equipment on military ground platforms.

VICTORY standards, which are for multi-vendor implementation, already are part of several Army and U.S. Marine Corps ground vehicle programs. These standards are considered critical enablers for the Assured Position, Navigation and Time (APNT) program, and several programs of record require VICTORY standards.

The VICTORY standards group focuses on three core areas: tactical systems capabilities; host and network system capabilities; and vehicle system and logistics capabilities.

Tactical system capabilities involves distributed PNT; audio/data/video; C4ISR/EW/intelligence; and targeting and weapon systems.

Host and network system capabilities involves attributed-based access control; in-vehicle networks; data management; host security and trusted computing; shared resources; databus services; and configuration description services.

Vehicle system and logistics capabilities, meanwhile, involves vehicle systems; vehicle reporting and logistics; and historical recording.

The VICTORY standards body, began seven years ago, sponsors occasional face-to-face technical meetings to address complex issues and outline top-level plans for VICTORY development and implementation. Formal VICTORY membership is not required to attend the December meetings.

The VICTORY meetings will be at the Army Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center (TARDEC) facility on the Detroit Arsenal installation, 6501 E. Eleven Mile Road, in Warren, Mich.
