AYER, Mass., 23 Jan. 2009. Engineers at chassis and backplane specialist Hybricon Corp. of Ayer, Mass., earned a U.S. patent for liquid flow-through cooling technology for air transport rack (ATR) enclosures for military and avionics applications.
The technology provides for thermal properties, while reducing the pressure drop of the coolant flow path. This technology further cements Hybricon Corp. as the industry leader in standard and custom solutions for electronic packaging needs.
Hybricon has used this patented technology in standard and custom liquid-cooled ATR applications. Hybricon engineers developed this technology to optimize the fluid flow paths for thermal performance while minimizing fluid pressure drop.
Although developed initially for high-power-dissipation applications, the technology is applicable in low-power applications, and is deployed on several mission-critical applications, company officials say.
The patent, entitled Card Cage with Parallel Flow Paths Having Substantially Similar Lengths, was awarded on 11 Nov. 2008 by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Alexandria, Va. The patent number is 7,450,384 B2.
