CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 31 May 2009. Azul Airlines selected the dual HGS-5600 Head Up Guidance Systems (HGS) with advanced avionics displays from Rockwell Collins for its fleet of 31 Embraer E195 aircraft. Installation will be completed at Embraer prior to delivery.

"Our selection by Azul marks the debut of our HGS on a South American airline," says Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager, Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. "We're extremely pleased to help equip one of Brazil's newest airlines with an advanced display solution that will provide significant operational and safety benefits."

Rockwell Collins' HGS provides enhanced situational awareness and energy management in all flight conditions. The presentation of all primary flight data in the pilot's forward field of view eliminates transitions from head-down to head-up flying. Using the displayed flight path and acceleration information, it is possible for the pilot to fly very accurate approaches to a precise landing in all conditions, even in turbulence, crosswinds and on black hole approaches.

"HGS is an integral part of our operation," says Cap. Alvaro Neto, operations director for Azul. "In the dual configuration, our pilots are able to fly and monitor the aircraft using the same instrument and maintain the highest levels of precision in both the visual and low-visibility arenas. For the Azul operation in Brazil, HGS is a true safety enhancement."

Key owner/user benefits include:

- eyes-out-of-the-flight-deck operation enhancing situational awareness;
- conformal display of critical flight parameters increasing safety;
- category III guidance-to-touchdown guiding the pilot through the approach, flare, - --touchdown, and rollout;
-low visibility takeoff guidance;
-precision touchdown capability maximizing landing performance and resulting in a reduction in wear on tires, wheels, and brakes
-improving windshear awareness and avoidance through head-up warnings and escape guidance
-increasing traffic awareness and avoidance with head-up TCAS alerts;
-software data loading and enhanced maintenance functions offer improved maintainability;
-preferred display for future capabilities such as enhanced vision, synthetic vision, and surface management.

The Rockwell Collins HGS-5600 is offered as a factory-installed option by Embraer on the entire E-Jets family - the E170/E175 and the E190/E195.
