FULLERTON, Calif., 12 July 2009. ThalesRaytheonSystems in Fullerton, Calif., received approval to install its NATO Air Command and Control System Level of Operational Capability 1(ACCS LOC 1) systems at eight more sites in Europe.

ACCS LOC 1 military air traffic management system now is deployed at five sites in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. The system will replace NATO's existing air command and control systems in Europe. Air Command Systems International, a ThalesRaytheonSystems company, will deliver the new systems to France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey.

ACCS LOC 1 uses an open standard architecture to adapt to changing operational requirements, such as theater missile defense and network centric warfare. When fully deployed, NATO member countries will use the same system, and will share operational data over a high-speed communications network.

The new system will improve interoperability for air operations by using one integrated approach to planning, tasking, monitoring, and mission execution, company officials say.

announced today it has received the approval for replication at eight additional sites across Europe of the program.

"This is a major step toward full deployment of a truly integrated, common air operations management system to support all military air operations across NATO members," says Jack Harrington, chief executive officer of ThalesRaytheonSystems.

Work will be under two contracts -- one for seven sites with the NATO ACCS Management Agency (NACMA), and the other with the French procurement agency (Délégation Générale pour l'Armement DGA).
