MISSION VIEJO, Calif., 22 Jan. 2010.Avionics databus interface specialist Holt Integrated Circuits in Mission Viejo, Calif., announced formal MIL-STD-1553 RT validation of the Holt HI-6120/21 small remote terminals to ensure that the terminals comply with the MIL-STD-1553 1-megabit-per-second databus standard.

MIL-STD-1553 validation testing was at Test Systems Inc. in Phoenix, an independent U.S. Air Force approved testing service for MIL-STD-1553 remote terminals.

These devices provide one-chip, 3.3-volt MIL-STD-1553 remote terminal solution with dual transceivers in surface-mount plastic packages. The HI-6120 uses a 16-bit parallel host bus interface in a 100-pin PQFP package, while the HI-6121 uses a four-wire serial peripheral host interface (SPI) and comes in a 52-pin PQFP or 64-pin QFN.

The 64-pin QFN measures 9 by 9 by 1 millimeters. Both devices handle MIL-STD-1553 protocols including message encoding, decoding, error detection, illegal command detection, and data buffering. Host data management stores message information and data within the on-chip 32K-by-16-bit static RAM solid-state memory.

"Validation by an approved third party gives our customers an assurance that our devices comply with the MIL-STD-1553 specification," says Anthony Murray, director of business development at Holt. "This is a necessary step in providing our customers with all the documentation required to pass their own certifications, such as DO-254".

The devices operate in industrial temperature ranges of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, or extended military temperature ranges of -55 to 125 C. Optional burn-in is available on the extended temperature range. RoHS-compliant lead-free options are also offered.

Each device has a dedicated developer's kit that includes a demonstration board with on-board Zilog ZNEOTM microprocessor, supporting software, cables, and power supply.
