(NYSE: SRX), announced that its next-generation surveillance solutions for Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) at Munich and Hamburg airports have been installed and are now operational. The Era solutions are being integrated into each airport's advanced-surface management guidance and control systems. The solutions for Munich, Germany's second largest airport, and Hamburg, Germany's fifth largest, use strategically placed MSS sensors to provide extended coverage of runways, taxiways, and aprons; improved automation of aircraft identification; and enhanced surveillance in all weather conditions, Era officials say. The solution for Munich also includes Era Squid vehicle tracking units to provide air traffic controllers with a complete view of all ground movements. Era's automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) and multilateration system provides higher accuracy, greater update rates, better coverage, and improved reliability when compared to traditional radar, at a much lower initial cost and with lower annual maintenance costs, company officials say.
