Rockwell Collins' goal is to be a one-stop shop for flight information services, said Steve Timm, vice president and general manager, Information Management for Rockwell Collins Commercial Systems business unit during a press conference at NBAA. Timm added that Ascend also will complement user's existing services – enabling them to pick and choose the features they want.Ascend will also be integrated with Rockwell Collins avionics solutions such as their Pro Line 4 and Pro Line 21 avionics suites, said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems at Rockwell Collins."Ascend Flight Information Solutions represents a new first for the entire business aircraft community by providing access to a full range of flight department services from a single provider," Timm continued. In the current environment, flight operations managers are dependent on multiple sources to plan different aspects of a trip. Ascend integrates all of those services together and synchronizes them between the aircraft and flight department for increased safety, security, predictability, and efficiency, Timm said. The full range of Ascend solutions is scalable to the size and needs of an individual flight department. These solutions include: flight planning and filing, concierge services, fuel services and weather updates; automatic data transfer of navigation, terrain, graphical weather and other flight deck databases; maintenance diagnostics; and cabin system subscription management, such as TV and other information and entertainment sources.Customers may select the offerings that meet their needs through a customized web portal or by making a single phone call."Our acquisition of Air Routing International in January was a key enabler to the creation of Ascend, which continues the expansion of Rockwell Collins' offerings to complement our avionics and cabin systems," Timm added. “Customers have known and trusted the people of Air Routing to provide exceptional trip support for more than 35 years. We are bringing even more value to these customers with a broader set of services that will continue to evolve in the years to come."
