Randy Babbitt, administrator for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), told the audience this morning at the National Business Aviation Administration (NBAA) show the Next Generation Transportation System (NextGen) through required navigation performance (RNP) will enable more access to business airports, by helping reduce delays across the country.Next-generation avionics technology in terms of GPS, cockpit displays and more will make this possible, he said. Babbitt referenced the Pilatus four-screen display cockpit as an example of the modern business jet cockpit.Babbitt also mentioned the FAA's new rule on reducing pilot fatigue as something business leaders need to embrace. Pilots need not just “more rest but better rest," he added.Other areas where the FAA is looking to improve pilot performance is in training requirements. It is not just number of flight hours that make a pilot experienced, it is proper training and the FAA will require more training experience when it comes to situations such as dealing with icing, Babbitt said.
