Cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from Universal Avionics selected by Gulfstream

ATLANTA, 21 Oct. 2010. Gulfstream selected the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) with recorder independent power supply (RIPS) and flight data recorder (FDR) from Universal Avionics in Tucson, Ariz., as forward-fit equipment on Gulfstream's G450, G550, and G650 business jets. The Universal Avionics CVR-120R and FDR-25R will be standard equipment on these aircraft.

The Universal Avionics CVR-120R and FDR-25R will be standard equipment on these aircraft.Gulfstream will be the first fixed wing original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to announce compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration Final Rule on CVR and digital FDR. Universal Avionics introduced a line of CVRs and digital FDRs, which comply with the Final Rule mandating RIPS in forward-fit applications for certain aircraft. RIPS provides a backup power source in case of a main power failure.
