The company supplied, installed, and commissioned the control tower flight data management system (TECOS), the voice communication control system and voice recording system (VCCS and VRS), the EUROCAT automation system extension, the weather broadcasting system, the screens, and the global time synchronization system. These new facilities significantly increase Egypt's National Air Navigation Services Co.'s (NANSC's) air traffic management capabilities in Cairo, as well as the passenger capacity of the airport, Thales officials say. Thales is now one of the country's main providers of ATC systems. With an installed base of six en-route Mode S radars and one approach radar at Cairo, the majority of Egyptian territory is covered. The en-route control center, responsible for the entire Egyptian airspace, as well as the terminal area and the approach to Cairo international airport, is based on EUROCAT, which is a modular system that guarantees the safety and efficiency of all en-route and approach flight phases. "Commissioning this new control center marks an important step in the modernization of the country's air traffic control capabilities," says Halim Assem, Thales country director for Egypt. "In fact, it represents the pinnacle of global ATC technology and takes on a crucial significance in the development of both domestic and international flight operations, with a direct impact on security and operational efficiency."Thales has also been involved in modernizing the Egyptian Aviation Academy (EAA), equipping it with the latest generation EUROCAT air traffic management simulators. These simulators are located in the school’s brand-new ATC training building, at "6 October" City.
