FAA to streamline instrument flight procedures process

Nov. 30, 2010
WASHINGTON, 30 Nov. 2010. Demand for Performance Based Navigation Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) is increasing and will help accelerate the benefits of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). Therefore the FAA is planning to streamline all processes used to request, prioritize, develop, and implement IFPs. Based on recommendations made by an RTCA task force, a program called "Nav Lean" will be implemented to produce safe, efficient Instrument Flight Procedures in the shortest time possible.

This transition will enhance the safety of the system and improve efficiency of flight, FAA officials say NextGen will also reduce aviation's environmental footprint by helping to reduce fuel burn and carbon emissions. For more information on NextGen, visit http://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/nextgen/.
