Jeppesen officials signed a five-year agreement with SkyWest Airlines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc., to provide Jeppesen AirSide Service materials, which includes delivery of pre-assembled Jeppesen operational manuals, standard operating procedures, and navigational charts for the commercial carrier. Jeppesen AirSide Service eliminates the need for pilots to assemble revisions and transport approximately 35 pounds of paper-based navigational charts and materials for each flight, Jeppesen officials ay. Through the service, Jeppesen coordinates manual assembly of critical flight information and delivers the paper materials onboard the aircraft, where the manuals remain at the conclusion of each flight. AirSide Service serves as a bridge to the eventual elimination of paper-based flight materials in the cockpit, with a transition to digital flight information delivery. "We are pleased to provide this service for our flight crew, which delivers flight materials directly to the flight deck and eliminates a time consuming pre-flight process for our pilots," says Chip Childs, SkyWest Airlines president and chief operating officer. "We look forward to expanding Jeppesen AirSide Service for our fleet as we research future Jeppesen digital flight information solutions." Jeppesen AirSide Service will initially be used with SkyWest Airline's fleet of 246 Bombardier-manufactured Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) aircraft and will expand to include its nearly 50 Embraer aircraft in the coming months."Jeppesen AirSide Service increases operational standardization and consistency, improves crew response time, and allows pilots to focus primarily on safely transporting passengers," says Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Portfolio Management, Aviation.
