AgustaWestland chooses Meggitt's standby flight display for helicopter cockpits

FAREHAM, England, 5 Feb. 2011. AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, has selected Meggitt Avionics' latest secondary flight display -- th eiSFD -- for its AW101 medium lift, AW139 medium-sized, multi-role twin-engined, and AB212 utility helicopters. This builds on an existing supply relationship between the two companies for the Meggitt Avionics helicopter air data system (HADS).
The iSFD is Meggitt's third generation solid-state secondary flight display. Showing critical flight data such as attitude, altitude, air speed, and heading, it can be matched closely to a primary system. For pilots, this means an easy transition to the standby in an emergency. The display is low weight and has the shortest installed length and best use of screen space in its class, company officials say.
Meggitt's iSFD was certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The iSFD has already been selected a mix of military and commercial programs, such as the Boeing Apache, HondaJet, Learjet 85, and the Korean medium weight utility helicopter, KAI Surion, company officials say.
