Avidyne Corp. announced that Jet Avionics of Sao Paulo, Brazil obtained a Brazilian Certificacao de Homologacao Supplementar de Tipo (CHST) from the Agencia Nacional De Aviacao Civil-Brasil (ANAC) for installation of Avidyne's EX600 multi-function display (MFD) into the Agusta A109S helicopter. The Brazilian CHST -- comparable to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) in the U.S. -- provides a basis for installations of the EX600 MFD in the A109S helicopter in Brazil, reducing paperwork and approval costs of future installations. Avidyne previously received ANAC approval of the EX600 on over 350 fixed-wing aircraft models as part of an Approved Model List (AML) CHST."We chose the EX600 because it is the only system that supports advanced weather displays and traffic on the moving map for complete hazard awareness on one screen, critical information for helicopter pilots flying in the complex and busy airspace that surround Brazilian cities, especially Sao Paulo," says Marcos Pedrone, Jet Avionics's technical director. "The EX600 can simultaneously display color radar, real-time lightning color lightning, and traffic from the dual-antenna, light-weight TAS600 Series active traffic awareness system.""Jet Avionics has done a great job in partnering with us to expand the reach of Avidyne products in the Brazilian market," says Patrick Herguth, Avidyne's chief operating officer. "The Agusta A109 is a popular airframe that can really benefit from the capabilities of the EX600 MFD."The EX600 is a full-function MFD that is designed to enhance situational awareness and safety for pilots of general aviation airplanes and now for helicopters as well. Incorporating all-new 5.8-inch diagonal, 640 by 480 pixel (VGA), the EX600 features Avidyne's pilot interface -- including new map panning keys and QuickPan function -- the EX600 improves a pilot’s ability to access and display critical flight data. QuickPan allows the pilot to quickly toggle between the present position and a panned-to position -- such as destination airport -- with a single button push, which is important for high workload helicopter operations. All EX600s include the ability to display CMax approach charts and over 6,000 worldwide airport diagrams --including airport diagrams for more than 132 airports in Brazil. CMax subscription services are available through Jeppesen. The EX600 sensor interfaces available in a retrofit MFD include Traffic TAS600-Series Traffic Advisory capability and TWX670 Color Tactical Lightning Detection. With Avidyne's MultiLink capability, the EX600 can display both broadcast datalink in the Continental U.S. through the MLB700 and international datalink through the MLX770 datalink transceiver. Optional TCAS I and TAWS/EGPWS/HTAWS interfaces are also available. EX600pricing starts at $9,990 for the standard MFD, including CMax electronic approach charts, worldwide airport diagrams, and standard interfaces for traffic and color lightning. For more information, visit www.avidyne.com.
