Eurotech subsidiary Parvus introduced the DuraCOR 830, a rugged tactical mission processor subsystem designed for size, weight, and power (SWaP)-constrained military/civil unmanned and manned air, ground, and shipboard technology refresh programs. The DuraCOR 830, showcased at the AUSA Winter Symposium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is targeted for avionics, situational awareness, and C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) applications.

Parvus partnered with Data Device Corp. in Bohemia, N.Y. on the DuraCOR's MIL-STD 1553 interface, says Mike Southworth, director of marketing at Parvus in Salt Lake City."We introduced the previous model, the 820, a couple of years ago as a small form factor mission computer and found that" some users want a slightly larger form factor with more I/O flexibility, so "we designed the 830 model."The 830 unit features a modular, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) PC/104-Plus architecture with an ultra low-power Intel Atom CPU running at 1.6 Ghz, dual avionics interfaces (MIL-STD-1553), I/O expansion capabilities, and a mechanically compact chassis at less than 4 inches tall and less than four pounds.It has two open expansion slots for PC/104, PCI-104, or PC/104-Plus cards, along with more than 100 spare connector pins on lightweight MIL-38999 connectors, the DuraCOR 830 is tailored to application-specific I/O configurations. The DuraCOR 830 has an extended temperature range of -40 to 71C degrees Celsius and other MIL-STD-810G environmental conditions -- shock, vibration, altitude, humidity, and immersion. Its corrosion-resistant, sealed aluminum chassis incorporates protection from water and dust ingress, as well as MIL-STD-461F emissions and susceptibility. The DuraCOR 830 delivers processing and multimedia performance similar to Pentium M-based DuraCOR subsystems, but with less power consumption, double the RAM memory capacity, and dual Flash SSDs. The system is also equipped with a 28 volt power supply compliant with MIL-STD-1275 and MIL-STD-704 voltages, spikes, and surges.The small form-factor computer subsystem integrates Gigabit Ethernet and dual MIL-STD-1553 (optional) connectivity along with digital I/O and standard PC interfaces, including analog video, audio, 3x USB, 2x RS-232 serial, keyboard, and mouse. For application flexibility, the unit comes with an 8 gigabyte industrial solid state disk (SSD) pre-loaded with a Linux or Windows Embedded operating system, as well as a removable 16 gigabyte CompactFlash disk for file storage.
