F-22A maintenance contract won by General Dynamics

FAIRFAX, Va., 4 April 2011. Officials at General Dynamics Information Technology will support the Air Force Material Command's F-22A Integrated Maintenance Information System (IMIS) program. The company will purchase, deliver and integrate ruggedized laptops that will be used as Portable Maintenance Aids with F-22As.
Portable Maintenance Aids are mobile computing devices that are used at the point of maintenance for technical data displays, diagnostic fault isolation, repair mentoring, material management, maintenance documentation, health monitoring, prognostics and operational data upload/download.
General Dynamic engineers will install each laptop with required software, perform functionality tests, and integrate required systems in support of the IMIS program. The program's objective is to improve the capabilities of aircraft maintenance organizations by providing technicians with a single information system for intermediate and organizational maintenance. In addition, the company will maintain an inventory control database to track equipment shipping and returns and maintain detailed records, to include warranty information.
"General Dynamics will ensure we meet the Air Force's strict requirements for preparing these ruggedized laptop computers for critical F-22A maintenance support," says Kenneth Hess, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Information Technology's Air Force -- Joint Systems sector. "Leveraging our in-depth experience integrating, installing and testing software on U.S. Air Force strategic assets, we will streamline delivery and reduce costs."
The majority of the work will be performed in Bossier City, La., supporting seven Air Force bases (AFB) throughout the country including, Tyndall AFB, Fla.; Langley AFB, Va.; Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; Hickam AFB, Hawaii; N.M; Sheppard AFB, Texas; and Nellis AFB, Nev.
The three-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract has a total potential value of $23 million if all options are exercised. An initial order of $3 million was awarded.
