SEATTLE, 17 May 2011. Officials at Alaska Airlines and Boeing announced a new airline maintenance initiative designed to lower costs called Component Management Optimization.
The Alaska maintenance organization in Seattle processes and tests Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) and Contact Memory Button (CMB) technology -- serial and part data date of manufacture and historical maintenance information is expected to lower overall cost by cutting down on labor time.
Fujitsu and Boeing will work together to bring identification devices, readers, system integration and software applications. The expected launch date for the program is winter this year.
