PHOENIX, 21 May 2011. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval was given to the software upgrade for the Primus Epic-based EASy II avionics system from Honeywell (NYSE: HON) in Phoenix for use on the Falcon 900 series business jets from Dassault.
The Dassault EASy II upgrade includes synthetic vision and Required Navigation Performance - Approval Required (RNP-AR) system, which enables better routing.
The SmartView synthetic vision system makes use of Honeywell's Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) with a terrain database used by commercial aircraft, helicpters, and business aircraft.
EASy II also has the Satellite Based Augmentation System -- Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (SBAS-LPV), which provides vertical guidance during LPV approaches. Compatibility with the European SBAS - the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) is also a feature of EASy II.
The software package also includes technology to reduce runway excursions called SmartRunway.
EASy II has an Automatic Descent Mode activates if the cabin depressurizes with the autopilot taking over if the crew is knocked out.
Other features include: an ADS-B Out transponder; XM Graphical Weather; and dual Jeppessen charts;
Work is being done by Dassault engineers to certify the Honeywell avionics upgrade on the Falcon 900 EASy series by the end of this year.
