Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials granted the autopilot and stability augmentation system called HeliSAS from Cobham, Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) status on the AS350 model series and EC130 helicopters from Eurocopter. HeliSAS also has STCs on the 206B, 206L, and 407 models from Bell Helicopter. The two-axis HeliSAS system enables control during all flight, no matter the wind conditions or weight shifts. The system is always engaged -- for example if the helicopter flies too high, it will return to near-level altitude by releasing the cyclic while HeliSAS is engaged.
