Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials are suggesting a $1,050,000 civil fine against Boeing because they allegedly failed to correct a known problem in central passenger oxygen system production and installation in 777 aircraft.FAA officials based the proposed penalty on inspections of nine new aircraft between April and October, 2010. Inspectors discovered that spacers within the oxygen delivery system distribution tubing on 777 aircraft were not incorrectly installed. Improper installation may result in the system not supplying oxygen to passengers if depressurization happens."There is no excuse for waiting to take action when it comes to safety," says Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.Boeing has 30 days after receipt of the FAA's enforcement letter to respond.
