U.S. Air Force officials selected Rockwell Collins engineers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to provide avionics and systems integration for the Air Force's KC-10 Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) cockpit modernization program. . Under the contract -- estimated at more than $160 million over the length of the program -- Rockwell Collins engineers will provide the avionics displays, flight management system, surveillance capabilities, and data link communications.The upgrade program provides technology that enables the KC-10 to meet current and future CNS/ATM requirements, allowing it to operate in commercial airspace worldwide, says Dave Nieuwsma, vice president and general manager of Mobility and Rotary Wing Solutions for Rockwell Collins. The KC-10 aircraft is an Air Mobility Command advanced tanker and cargo aircraft that provides increased global mobility for the U.S. military.
