CAIRO, Egypt, 25 Sept. 2011. The Egyptian Air Force (EAF) in Cairo, Egypt, has taken its first delivery of the C295 military transport aircraft from Airbus Military in Madrid, Spain. The delivery is part of a three-aircraft order placed in October 2010. The other two aircraft are to be delivered before the end of this year, Airbus officials say.Egyptian military authorities chose the C295 for its adaptability to desert areas of operation, its maintenance and life cycle costs, and operational capabilities, Airbus Military officials say.The C295 is configured with standard equipment as well as the cargo handling and, aerial delivery system (CHADS). It can also be equipped for deploying paratroops, medical evacuation, and humanitarian relief missions.
The Airbus Military C295 also can carry payloads as heavy as 9 metric tonnes, in standard cargo pallets, 71 soldiers in transport missions, or 50 paratroopers. To date, Airbus Military has sold 83 C295 aircraft to 12 different operators.
