Raytheon to modernize nationwide air traffic management systems in Kyrgyz Republic

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., 5 Oct. 2011. Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN) won a $24 million contract to modernize air traffic management systems throughout the Kyrgyz Republic, a country of roughly 5 million people that includes a main international airport near the capital city of Bishkek. Engineers at Raytheon, which is named prime contractor and system integrator on the contract, will deliver a wide area multilateration (WAM)-based air traffic control (ATC) system, ATC radio systems, a new air traffic control tower (ATCT) at Manas International Airport, related ancillary equipment, and systems integration services. U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center, which procured the contract via the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, is the contracting authority.

The Raytheon team--including WAM provider Saab Sensis Corp. of Syracuse, N.Y.--will establish a safe, effective air management system for en-route air traffic within the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as aircraft operating at the Manas International Airport. Raytheon staff will design and construct a new ATCT at Manas International Airport, supplying new communications systems and interfaces to upgrade the existing air traffic management infrastructure. Construction and ATCT design services will be supported by Serka Construction in Turkey.
