CHICAGO, 14 Oct. 2011. Boeing has completed the final assembly of a 787 Dreamliner airplane destined for United Airlines, which reportedly will become the first North American carrier to take delivery of a 787. Officials at United expect to introduce this aircraft, the first of 50 Dreamliners ordered, into revenue service in 2012. Continental and United, both subsidiaries of United Continental Holdings, each ordered 25 Dreamliners to target new long-haul markets and replace older, less-efficient widebody aircraft.

The aircraft has achieved four factory positions: final aircraft body join, landing gear installation, weight-on-wheels testing, and installation of interior components and systems. The 787 now will move into the next phase: final cabin configuration, installation of engines, and painting.

The aircraft combines lightweight composites, more electric systems, modern engines, and an improved aerodynamic design.
