MUNICH, 21 March 2012. Pierre Bachelier, head of ATM Program at Airbus SAS, discussed the main objectives of air traffic management (ATM) systems transformation from an aircraft manufacturer’s perspective during his keynote address at Avionics Europe 2012 in Munich.
“ATM transformation has a huge added value for air transport and the global economy,” Bachelier says. “This is the ‘license to grow’ for air traffic in the near future.” In fact, ATM transformation is expected to deliver $135 billion in net benefits each year after 2026, according to a Deloitte study.
The core benefits of ATM transformation, such as with SESAR, include: optimizing the aircraft ATM capabilities to the benefit of the airlines, supporting interaction between air and ground systems to the benefit of ATM global performance, and promoting global interoperability of ATM systems worldwide to avoid duplication of equipment and ensure flight efficiency, Bachelier explains.
