Embraer to supply one more E170 passenger jet for JAL regional routes in Japan

SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, 9 April 2012. Aircraft manufacturer Embraer S.A. in São José Dos Campos, Brazil will supply one additional new Embraer E170 passenger jet to Japan Airlines (JAL) in Tokyo under terms of a $38 million modification to a contract that originally called for 10 Embraer 170s.

SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, 9 April 2012. Aircraft manufacturer Embraer S.A. in São José Dos Campos, Brazil will supply one additional new Embraer E170 passenger jet to Japan Airlines (JAL) in Tokyo under terms of a $38 million modification to a contract that originally called for 10 Embraer E170s.

The twin-engine Embraer E170, powered by GE CF34-8E engines, will be configured for 76 passengers in one class for JAL subsidiary J-AIR, and will fly on J-Air's regional network in Japan. Embraer will deliver the new aircraft to J-AIR late this year.

J-Air is using the Embraer E170s to replace replaced old and inefficient aircraft on routes such as Tokyo-Haneda to Nanki-Shirahama and between Osaka-Itami to Aomori, officials say. The airline also re-launched some routes, including Osaka-Itami to Miyazaki, previously flown with old and bigger jets, adjusting capacity to demand.

The Embraer E170 seats 70 to 78 passengers, can fly distances as far as 2,100 nautical miles, has a top speed of 615 miles per hour, and can take off and land on runways as short as 4,180 feet. The aircraft is 98 feet long with a wingspan of 85 feet, and has a cabin length of nearly 64 feet.
