SHANGHAI, 17 May 2012. UTair Aviation in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, an airline that provides domestic and international passenger air service from Russia, needed maintenance and engineering services for the airline's fleet of eight Boeing 767-200ER widebody passenger jets. They found their solution from Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co. Ltd., based at PuDong International Airport in Shanghai.
Boeing Shanghai signed two agreements with UTair for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for avionics repair and mechanical work to support UTair’s incoming fleet of as many eight 767-200ER passenger jets.
Boeing Shanghai also has been awarded a contract for heavy aircraft maintenance of the first 767 to be introduced to UTair’s fleet in July, and under a separate contract Boeing Shanghai completed a C-check on a UTair Boeing 737-500 passenger jet.
Boeing Shanghai will help UTair develop a maintenance program, develop new interior configurations, and prepare a modification program to help the airline comply with European and Russian aviation authority requirements.
“The entry of the 767 into the UTair fleet is a great step forward in our relationship with the airline," says Marty Bentrott, the Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of sales for Russia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
UTair operates one of the largest aircraft fleets in Russia and ranks among the top five largest Russian carriers by passenger volume, Boeing Shanghai officials say. The airline provides scheduled domestic and international passenger services and helicopter services, as well as airport services and airline catering services.
Working with Russian and area airlines, Boeing Shanghai has completed heavy maintenance on eight 767-300ERs for Aeroflot in Moscow, two 767-300ERs for S7 Airlines in Moscow, and seven 767-300ERs for Aerosvit Airlines in Kiev, Ukraine.
