Barfield to handle maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) support for SATENA ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500 turboprops
MIAMI, 30 May 2012. Aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) expert Barfield Inc. in Miami is extending its contract with Colombia regional airline Servicio Aéreo à Territorios Nacionales (SATENA) to handle nose-to-tail component support for three additional SATENA ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500 turboprop passenger airliners.
The SATENA contract extension calls for Barfield to handle maintenance for the additional aircraft, including engines, line-replaceable units (LRUs), and propellers, as well as pool access and handling inventory at Barfield's facility in Bogotá, Colombia. Barfield is a Sabena technics company.
SATENA, owned by the Colombian government, operates regional air transport service in remote areas of Colombia where no other commercial airline service is available. The airline is headquartered at Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport.
The Colombian regional air carrier operates a fleet of aircraft that include the 32-passenger Dornier 328-120, the 46-passenger ATR 42-500, the 70-passenger ATR 72-212, the 50-passenger Embraer ERJ 145LR, and the 76-passenger Embraer E-170-100SL.
The twin-engine, 46-passenger ATR 42-500 turboprop that Barfield will maintain is the ATR 42's current production version, first delivered in 1995. It has six-bladed propellers turned by Pratt & Whitney PW127E engines, and has strong hot and high performance. the twin-engine. The 70-passenger ATR-72-500 also has six-bladed propellers and Pratt & Whitney PW127F engines.
Barfield has 250 employees at facilities in Miami, Phoenix, Louisville, Ky., and Bogota. The company specializes in component repair & overhaul, airline programs, rotables & distribution and ground support test equipment (GSTE).
The company is an authorized repair facility for more than 30 European and U.S. aircraft manufacturers. Barfield’s repair and overhaul capabilities include crew seats, radio equipment, oxygen equipment and accessories for Airbus and Boeing airliners, regional and business aircraft, and helicopters.
