MONTREAL, 12 June 2012.Business aviation specialist NetJets Inc. in Columbus, Ohio, needed a large order of 8-to-13-passenger business jets for the company's fleet of fractional-ownership private jets. They found their solution from Bombardier Aerospace in Montreal.
NetJets on Monday placed a firm order for 75 Bombardier Challenger 300 series jets and 25 Bombardier Challenger 605 series jets, with deliveries set to begin in 2014 and 2015 respectively. NetJets also took options for 125 Challenger 300 and 50 Challenger 605 jets for its general aviation operations.
The entire deal, potentially worth $9.6 billion, is the largest Challenger jet and business aircraft order in Bombardier's history. The transaction also includes 15 years of aftermarket support, and calls for Bombardier to provide scheduled and unscheduled line and heavy maintenance for the new aircraft.
NetJets will operate the new Bombardier aircraft in the U.S. and in Europe. NetJets operates a fleet of more than 700 aircraft worldwide.
The Bombardier Challenger 605 seats two crew members and as many as 13 passengers. It has two General Electric CF34-3B turbofan engines, has a range of 4,000 nautical miles, flies at speeds to 610 miles per hour, and can reach altitudes to 41,000 feet.
The Challenger 605 avionics suite consists of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 with four 10-by-12-inch liquid crystal displays (LCDs); dual autopilot with single autothrottle; EFIS/EICAS system with synoptics; dual FMS-6000 with coupled lateral and vertical nav, performance calculations; integrated flight information system (IFIS); dual Honeywell Laseref V inertial reference system; integrated radio tuning with Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 VHF/nav radios; integrated electronic standby instruments; optional head-up guidance system (HGS)/Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BEVS).
The Bombardier Challenger 300 seats two crew members and as many as eight to ten passengers. It has two Honeywell HTF7000 turbofan engines, has a range of 3,065 nautical miles, can fly at speeds to 610 miles per hour, and can reach altitudes to 45,000 feet.
The Challenger 300 avionics suite consists of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 system with four liquid crystal displays (LCDs); engine instrument/crew alerting system (EICAS); integrated flight information system (IFIS); dual DME/dual GPS with WAAS/dual FMS-5000; maintenance diagnostics computer; enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS); traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS II); emergency locator transmitter (ELT); cockpit voice recorder; and digital flight data recorder.
