FL Technics breaks ground on 16,000 square meters of MRO facilities in Russia, for single-aisle and wide-body aircraft
ULYANOVSK, Russia, 26 Aug. 2012. Aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) specialist FL Technics Ulyanovsk has begun construction of an aircraft MRO center at the Port Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) in Ulyanovsk, Russia, company officials say.
The FL Technics Ulyanovsk project will consist of two aircraft maintenance hangars of 8000 square meters each for servicing narrow-and wide-body aircraft, including Airbus A320, Boeing 737 Classic, Boeing 737NG, Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Bombardier CRJ 200, Sukhoi Superjet 100, Boeing 747, and Airbus A380.
The FL Technics technical base in Ulyanovsk will provide airframe and avionics modifications, A to D checks, engine and landing gear replacement, flight hours inspection, Structure maintenance, component maintenance and interior design-related services.
The $22 million facility will feature a designated 3000 square-meter aircraft parking platform and the first hangar is expected to open in early 2015. The company is planning to establish as many as 500 new work places for technical specialists at the facility, company officials say.
In 2013 the company is planning to launch the construction of a new 8,000-square-meter FL Technics hangar at Kaunas International Airport, Lithuania. The new center will provide MRO services for various narrow and wide body aircraft, including Boeing 747, as well as offer a wide range of aircraft parts and components MRO solutions.
"Currently over 50 percent of all non-Russian manufactured aircraft operated by the Russian carriers are being serviced outside the country," says Gediminas Ziemelis, chairman of the board at FL Technics parent company Avia Solutions Group. "The construction of the new MRO center in Ulyanovsk will surely allow them to lower aircraft maintenance expenses. Moreover, it will make the Russian market more attractive to clients from other CIS countries."
