Lockheed Martin introduces automated flight service station pilot web portal

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., 15 Oct. 2012. Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] flight services (LMFS) has announced the launch of the automated flight service station (AFSS) pilot web portal and the new adverse condition alerting service (ACAS). ACAS and the Pilot Web Portal are meant to enhance safety and convenience for pilots who use LMFS to file flight plans.

Pilots who register online and opt-in for ACAS via the pilot web portal will receive alerts of new adverse conditions specific to their filed flight plans via text, email and Iridium satellite devices. The alerts prompt pilots to call or radio LMFS to receive an abbreviated briefing addressing the new adverse condition.

The pilot web portal, which is accessible through AFSS.com, enables pilots to file flight plans directly with LMFS and retrieve the same briefing information and weather graphics provided to LMFS Specialists. The pilot web portal is currently in the beta development stage and will continue to evolve with new features.

Lockheed Martin has operated Flight Services on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration through the Automated Flight Service Station contract since 2005. Since its creation, the AFSS has filed more than 1 million flight plans for pilots; provided more than 1.5 million weather briefings; answered 406,811 aviation radio contacts; and assisted pilots in more than 9,900 aviation search and rescue scenarios.
