CHARLOTTE, N.C., 30 Oct. 2012. Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) officials needed a fire protection system for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft. They found their solution at Curtiss-Wright Controls Avionics & Electronics (CWC-AE).

Curtiss-Wright Controls won a follow-on production contract, valued at $9 million, with an estimated potential value in excess of $18 million over the lifetime of the program, to provide Sukhoi with the company's Fire Protection System technology.

Curtiss-Wright's system will provide protection for the entire Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, including smoke and fire detection and suppression in the cargo bay, engines, APU, wheel wells, lavatories, and associated electronics.

Curtiss-Wright's Fire Protection System, scalable to different size aircraft, includes controllers with dual redundant operation, DO-178B-qualified software, and DO-160B environmental qualifications. A dual loop controller for improved dispatch ability provides sophisticated fault monitoring, while advanced smoke detectors discriminate false stimulants using the multiple criteria particle discrimination principle.

"This new agreement strengthens Curtiss-Wright's market position as a trusted partner for Sukhoi, and is further affirmation of Curtiss-Wright’s expanding footprint in the Russian aerospace industry," says Tom Quinly, president of Curtiss-Wright Controls.

Shipments are scheduled to begin in March 2013 and to continue through Sept. 2014.

The Curtiss-Wright Controls Avionics and Electronics division (CWC-AE) division will manufacture the products covered by this agreement at its facility in City of Industry, Calif., and ship them to Sukhoi in Moscow, Russia.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) is a 100-seat regional jet designed, developed, and built by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC), in partnership with Alenia Aermacchi. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 cruises at a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.81 and maximum operating ceiling of 40,000 feet. It takes off from a 1,731-meter runway in the basic range and at 2,052 meters in the long range.
