Boeing and Embraer collaborate on Runway Situation Awareness Tools to reduce runway excursions, enhance safety
Boeing and Embraer are unveiling Runway Situation Awareness Tools, a selection of near-term and longer-term solutions for reducing runway excursions and enhance safety. Near-term offerings include new pilot procedures and a training video on landing performance. For the longer term, the aerospace companies will jointly develop flight-deck technology and systems to provide pilots enhanced information about approach and landing.
"Runway excursion is one of the three major contributors to aviation accidents, and we firmly believe that a robust set of pilot procedures, training, and new technology will substantially reduce these events," says Paulo Cesar Silva, president and CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. "This is another result of a successful joint effort from Boeing and Embraer on technological fronts, with important gains for our airline customers."
"New pilot procedures, training, and technology are effective and practical ways to eliminate runway excursions for Boeing and Embraer customers," explains Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. "We are very pleased to collaborate with Embraer to support our customers and further strengthen industry safety."
Runway Situation Awareness Tools could also be utilized by pilots flying other commercial aircraft, in addition to Boeing and Embraer platforms, to support overall industry safety, says a spokesperson.
