BLAGNAC, France, 12, Jan. 2013. Avolon, an international leasing company, has placed an order for 20 A320neo aircraft. This is a confirmation of an order made in July 2012 at the Farnborough Airshow. The original order was for 15 A320neo aircraft. Avolon will make its engine selection at a later date.

The A320neo is a new engine option for the A320 family entering into service from 2015 and incorporates the latest engines and "Sharklet" wing tip devices, which together help to deliver up to 15 percent in fuel savings. The reduction in fuel burn is equivalent to 1.4 million litres of fuel. The A320neo NOx emissions are 50% below CAEP/6, and the aircraft also features a smaller noise footprint.

The Airbus A320neo is the latest version of the Toulouse, France-based Airbus venerable A320 family of single-aisle narrow-body commercial airliners. The A320neo, which stands for new engine option, features modern fuel-efficient engines and upturned winglets, which Airbus calls "sharklets," to make the most of aerodynamic efficiency.

Almost 8,900 A320 family aircraft have been ordered, with more than 5,300 delivered to more than 380 customers and operators worldwide. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality, making it easy to fit into existing fleets.
