MUNICH, 21 Feb. 2013. Visualization specialist Barco is launching its TCD-361/LED tower control display for air traffic control applications.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to optimize display performance and reliability,” comments Steven Luys, director strategic marketing defense & aerospace for Barco. “By incorporating LED technology into our ATC displays, we’ve been able to meet new industry challenges, such as energy efficiency and environmental requirements, while perfecting display performance in terms of brightness, resolution and ergonomics.”

The new 24-inch monitor employs high-bright LED backlights and offers excellent readability of text and images, regardless of ambient light conditions.

Barco’s TCD-361/LED features full-color HD resolution, presenting the most detailed information with superior image quality. The LED backlights, combined with Barco’s proprietary stabilization technology, guarantee a stabilized brightness of no less than 600 cd/m² and reduce power consumption to 75 watts in operating mode, according to a company representative. The display’s long-life backlight system is designed to deliver long-term, reliable performance.

“We are dedicated to making products that guarantee safe and efficient air traffic. That’s why Barco’s product offering covers every segment of the air traffic management industry, from control towers over air traffic control centers to airline and airport operation centers. We have over 11,000 displays in the field, which makes Barco the preferred partner of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),” concludes Steven Luys.

The new tower control display’s integrated ambient light sensor automatically adjusts brightness settings in function of the ambient light conditions, ranging from bright daylight to dimmed night time, helping to reduce eye fatigue. The 24-inch-wide screen provides users with a flexible and easily readable HMI display surface.

The display is fan-less, offering low-noise operation for even more user comfort. Additionally, by using LED backlights, the TCD-361/LED allows for a slim, compact design for high spatial efficiency in the tower.
