Air Lease orders 10 Boeing 777-300ER jumbo twinjets to meet growing global demand for long-haul passenger aircraft
SEATTLE, 3 March 2013. Air Lease Corp. (ALC) in Los Angeles is buying 10 777-300ER widebody passenger jetliners from the Boeing Co. Commercial Airplanes segment in Seattle for a price of $3.2 billion to help ALC meet growing airline demand for long-haul passenger airplanes, company officials say.
ALC is in business to lease aircraft to commercial aviation airlines and other jet operators. The 777 is the world's largest twin-engine twin-engine jet liner. The aircraft can seat more than 300 passengers and can fly at ranges as far as 9,380 nautical miles. The aircraft has been in service since 1995.
"These 777-300ERs will enable our customers to grow and modernize their fleets," says John Plueger, the ALC president and chief operating officer.
ALC has ordered 185 airplanes from Boeing including 78 next-generation 737s, 80 737 MAXs, 12 787 Dreamliners, and 15 777-300ERs. The leasing company also has reconfirmation rights on 20 additional Boeing 737 MAX airplanes.
The 777-300ER carries 386 passengers as far as 7,825 nautical miles between refuelings. The aircraft has GE90-115B engines, digital fly-by-wire controls, software-configurable avionics, Honeywell LCD glass cockpit flight displays, and a fiber optic avionics network.
The Boeing 777 has the largest-diameter turbofan engines of any aircraft, six wheels on each main landing gear, and was designed to replace old wide-body airliners and bridge the capacity difference between the Boeing 767 and 747.
