UTC Aerospace Systems releases compact, rugged SWIR camera well suited to airborne persistent surveillance applications

CHARLOTTE, N.C., 1 May 2013. UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), released its next-generation Sensors Unlimited high-resolution, snapshot shortwave infrared (SWIR) camera.

The high-sensitivity, mil-rugged Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) high-resolution VGA SWIR camera, driven by a 640x512-pixel SWIR image sensor with 12.5 micron pixel pitch, is designed for applications such as enhanced vision, persistent surveillance, and laser spot tracking. It features a high-performance SWIR imager, with small SWaP (size, weight, and power), and daylight to low-light imaging capability.

The camera weighs less than 55 grams, measures 1.25in x 1.25in x 1.25in., uses less than 2W of power at 20 degrees Celsius, and operates from -40 to 70 degrees Celsius case temperatures. Also, the MicroSWIR camera's low noise imaging capability (35e- total noise), on-board automatic gain control (AGC), non-uniformity corrections (NUCs), and dynamic range enhancements provide optimized imagery in a wide variety of lighting conditions.

The 640-MicroSWIR was built for rugged operation, and includes the assurance of MIL-STD-810G environmental testing and CE certification.
