SEATTLE, 5 June 2013. NuWaves Engineering, an international radio frequency (RF) and embedded systems solutions provider in Middletown, Ohio, is introducing and demonstrating the latest product in the NuPower line of small, lightweight, and power-efficient RF power amplifier (PA) modules at the 2013 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) hosted by IEEE’s Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S).

The NuPower S- & C-Band power amplifier covers VHF, UHF, L-band, S-band, and C-band frequencies in miniature and ruggedized packages as small as 1.3 cubic inches. The new solid-state power amplifier accepts a nominal 0 dBm input and delivers at least 15 watts of saturated power across 2500 MHz to 6000 MHz. Based on the latest Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, the NuPower S- & C-Band PA features typical efficiencies between 20 and 40 percent, making it the most power-efficient PA module available in its class. Its 3.15 cubic-inch form factor makes it ideal for size, weight, and power (SWaP)-constrained applications, such as tactical communications and telemetry for unmanned systems.

A bidirectional version of the PA featuring auto-sensing transmit/receive switching will be made available in the exact same package as part of the recently announced NuPower Xtender series of advanced bidirectional power amplifiers.

“We are really pushing the boundaries of power per cubic inch and power efficiency, both of which are critical for today’s and tomorrow’s advanced communication systems,” says Jeff Wells, president and CEO of NuWaves Engineering.
