Embraer owns first day of Paris with potential orders for 365 next-generation E2 small- and medium-sized passenger jets
PARIS, 17 June 2013. While Airbus and Boeing announced new aircraft sales today at the Paris Air Show, the first day of the European aviation confab belonged to Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer SA, as the South American company announced aircraft orders for as many as 365 next-generation small- and medium-sized twin-engine passenger jetliners.
Total fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft sales announced at Paris Monday were 579 from Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, AgustaWestland, and Bombardier.
Embraer, of São José Dos Campos, Brazil, made perhaps the biggest splash during the first day at Paris not only with the company's introduction of the second generation of its E-Jets family, but also of orders for as many as 365 of the new jets from a variety of aircraft operators.
The Embraer E-Jets E2 aircraft family comprises three new commercial airplanes -- the E175-E2 that seats as many as 88 passengers, the E-190-E2 that seats as many as 106, and the E195-E2, which seats as many as 132 passengers.
Embraer's biggest customer at Paris Monday was U.S. regional carrier SkyWest Airlines headquartered in St. George, Utah. SkyWest, which serves short- and medium-haul routes in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas, placed firm orders for 100 Embraer E175-E2 jets and made purchase rights on another 100 of these aircraft.
The deal has an estimated value of $9.36 billion. Just last month SkyWest placed orders for as many as 200 of Embraer's current-generation E175 aircraft.
The Embraer E-2 family of aircraft, introduced today at the Paris Air Show, offers advanced-technology avionics, engines, and wings to the small-to-medium-sized passenger jet market. These new aircraft, which are expected to enter service between 2018 and 2020, are expected to offer double-digit reductions in fuel consumption, emissions, noise, and maintenance costs over existing aircraft in this class.
The E2 family from Embraer has 4th-generation full fly-by-wire flight controls, the Honeywell Primus Epic 2 integrated avionics system, large landscape cockpit displays, advanced graphics, and Honeywell's next-generation flight-management system (NGFMS).
Powering the E2 family of aircraft is the Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbine high bypass ratio engines. The E175 E2 will have the PW1700G engine, while the E190E2 and E195-E2 will have the PW1900G engines.
In other aircraft sales Monday at Paris, Airbus of Toulouse, France, announced orders for 170 passenger aircraft. The European aircraft maker took orders for 35 A320neo single-aisle passenger jets, 35 A321neo jets, and 30 A320ceo jets from German flag carrier Lufthansa.
Airbus also announced a memorandum of understanding with aircraft lease specialist Doric Lease Corp. of South Beach, Fla., for 20 Airbus A380 jumbo jetliners. Airbus also took a firm order from International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) in Los Angeles for 50 A320neo narrow-body passenger aircraft.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Seattle announced orders for 19 passenger aircraft Monday at Paris. Boeing's sales are for 10 787-10x Dreamliner aircraft to GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) in Stamford, Conn., as well as an order for nine 777-300ER long-range jumbo jets from Qatar Airways in Doha, Qatar.
Next is helicopter specialist AgustaWestland in Amsterdam, which announced orders for 15 helicopters, including the company's AW139, AW169, AW189, and GrandNew light twin helicopters.
Also Monday at Paris Bombardier Aerospace in Montreal announced orders for 10 CS100 medium-sized passenger jetliners from European startup airline Odyssey Airlines, a new airline that intends to operate from London City Airport. This firm order was announced on June 24, 2011.
As of close of business on Monday, by rough count a total of 579 aircraft orders had been taken at the Paris Air Show. In competition for top aircraft seller at the show, Embraer on Monday led with 365 orders, second is Airbus with 170 orders, next is Boeing with 19 orders, then is AgustaWestland with 15 orders, and then comes Bombardier with 10 orders.
The Paris Air Show continues through Thursday this week for business-only displays and demonstrations. The public is invited to the show in Le Bourget, France, for shows and flight demonstrations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
