Fire inhibits immediate investigation and black box recovery

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators were unable to recover the black boxes—the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder—immediately following the crash. The tail section of the Airbus A300-600F continued smoking and smoldering throughout the day and into the evening, NTSB Member Robert Sumwalt revealed during the first press conference related to the crash of UPS Flight 1354 on 14 Aug. 2013.
