MOSCOW, 7 Sept. 2013. Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company, signed an exclusive, eight-year maintenance services agreement with Transaero Airlines to provide engine overhaul services on the airline's fleet of PW4000-112 engines.
The agreement, expected to be worth approximately $55 million over eight years, calls for Pratt & Whitney providing engine overhaul services for 11 Transaero PW4000-112 engines. Pratt & Whitney services are expected to lend to a reduction in overhaul costs and downtime for Transaero.
"Pratt & Whitney is dedicated to providing its customers the upmost value through high quality maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services," says Jerry Tarnacki, Pratt & Whitney Services vice president.
Engine overhauls will be performed at Eagle Services Asia, Pratt & Whitney's Singapore-based engine overhaul facility and the company's center of excellence for PW4000 engine overhaul.
Transaero Airlines is the second-largest passenger airline in Russia. Transaero, having launched its services in November 1991, boasts a fleet of 100 aircraft, including 24 Boeing 747s, 14 Boeing 777s, fifteen 767s, forty-two 737s, three Tupolev 214, and two Tu-204-100C aircraft. Transaero has the largest long-haul fleet in Russia, the CIS, and Eastern Europe.
Transaero is the only commercial carrier flying Boeing 747 passenger aircraft in the region, says a company representative. According to the German Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center (JACDEC), Transaero ranks among the top 20 safest carriers in the world. Transaero serves more than 190 routes in Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
