INCOSE Overview and Invitation to a Better Engineered World

Many of today’s airborne platforms require sophisticated and complex electronic systems to achieve end customers’ operational requirements. Avionics professionals tasked with building and maintaining these systems strive for engineering excellence and continuous improvement. Dr Asmus Pandikow discusses how INCOSE (International Council of Systems Engineers) provides a solid foundation for promoting competitive, scalable professional standards in the practice of systems engineering.

Advanced COTS Platforms for Avionics Software Development

This presentation will cover the current challenges facing software developers of avionics systems. System architecture, software configuration, and certification requirements, all of which affect the system cost and risk will be covered. The presenter will conclude by showing how you can reduce that cost and risk through the use of COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) technology and advanced tools, including an update of successful projects using COTS technology.

Achieving Open Architecture in Avionics

There is an important initiative starting in Avionics software development. Avionics manufacturers are seeking to increase module re-usability and enable simple innovation insertion. In this presentation we will discuss examples from Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE - a safety critical software infrastructure for re-usable software) and Unmanned Control Segment (UCS - an architecture for reconfigurable ground control stations) are redefining the way in which avionics and airborne systems of the future will be built. We will focus on data and how to develop software infrastructure that delivers the right data to the right place at the right time.

COTS Hardware and Standards for Avionics Applications

Avionics hardware system requirements vary depending on the platform and it’s application. This presentation discusses how systems engineers can leverage the right set of COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) hardware building blocks (SBC, DSP, FPGA, IO, Storage, Graphics) and open standards (VME, CPCI, VPX) to rapidly prototype the most advanced avionics systems.

Connectivity in Ground Stations for Airborne Applications

Many airborne systems have fixed and mobile ground station platform support. The connectivity between platforms / systems and the implementation of the physical layer has various real world challenges. A better understanding of these challenges can lead to shorter project time scales, better engineered systems and ultimately reduced project costs. This presentation will discuss issues such as environmental, EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and installation mistakes.
