VISTA, Calif., 23 Oct. 2013. Sandel Avionics Inc., a provider of compact, integrated display systems technologies, is celebrating its 15-year anniversary in business at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Annual Convention.

Sandel was founded in 1998 to bring high-performance, color graphics avionics to unserved customers by recognizing that the emerging technology of rear projection could be used to produce compact cockpit displays, officials say.

After introducing the SN3308 Electronic HSI with ColorMap, Sandel turned its attention to Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS) for the fixed-wing TAWS market. By designing the Sandel ST3400 TAWS, a full-color terrain warning display with advanced algorithms for the air transport market, enabling entire fleets to improve safety. Sandel redefined the technology to eliminate nuisance alerts in real-world, rotary-wing operations, giving superior safety benefits to helicopters only previously available to fixed-wing aircraft, according to a spokesperson.

The Sandel product line includes: Primary Navigation and Primary Attitude displays, AHRS, TAWS, and HTAWS.

Sandel products are being delivered for Sikorsky’s new-generation S-70i Black Hawks, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) new factory-built helicopters, listed in Eurocopter’s bluebook for the EC135 and EC145, and Sandel HeliTAWS software embedded in Rockwell Collins’ Helisure product line.

Sandel holds more than 30 U. S. and international patents and its products are included in approximately 50 FAA Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs).
