MONTREAL, 3 Dec. 2013. Bombardier focuses on developing innovative environmentally conscious products using Design for environment (DfE) and life cycle, including: design, supply chain production, manufacturing and testing, product use and maintenance, and end of life, explains Kahina Oudjehani, design for environment lead at Bombardier Aerospace.

Bombardier is working with students to innovate around recycling aircraft interiors—including overhead bins and passenger seating—and repurposing those materials into usable products, such as clothing, storage furniture, and even bicycles, says Oudjehani.

Pratt & Whitney has established the 2028 Sustainability Vision, which encompasses efforts to reduce emissions, design products from a life cycle point of view, and move toward zero-waste facilities, describes Robert Dadieux, manager of environment and sustainable development at Pratt & Whitney Canada. The company, which has produced more than 80,000 engines to date, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its PT6 during the Aerospace Innovation Forum this week.
