Abbott Technologies introduces AC-DC switchers for extreme environments

The new products, designated the CM1000EC, are sealed to meet IP67 requirements and can handle humidity to 100 percent, making them ideal for a variety of applications, such as avionics, head-up displays (HUDs), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), military vehicles, and shipboard equipment, to name a few.

Abbott CM1000EC military power supplies can be specified with single phase inputs ranging from 95 to 260 volts AC (VAC) at line frequencies from 47 to 880 Hz. All input sections include built-in power factor correction, meet MIL-STD-1399 Section 300 requirements for spike voltage testing, and provide line regulation of ±1 percent, officials say.

The CM1000EC models are available with a 28VDC 36A output and achieve load regulation of ±1 percent from no load to full load. Models with outputs ranging from 13.6 to 48VDC will be available soon.

Operating temperature range of -40 to +80C base plate with no power derating, while ripple and noise are less than 2 percent peak-to-peak over a 20MHz bandwidth, officials say. All CM1000EC power supplies offer high efficiency (85 percent) with conductive cooling through the mounting base. An optional mounting bracket and heat sink for forced air or liquid cooling are also available.

Each unit offers a range of features expected in every Abbott military power supply, including: short circuit protection with current limiting, in-rush current limiting, remote error sensing, and built-in test.

CM1000EC power supplies come with standard built-in test (BIT) functions, including DC and AC monitors, TTL Inhibit, Remote Output Voltage Sense, and Forced Load Share. External monitoring and control of output voltage and current capabilities are provided through an input voltage status, while baseplate temperature and battleshort functions are available via range of serial communication options, including RS232, RS422, RS485, USB, IEEE-1394 (FireWire), MIL-STD-1553, and CANbus.

Calculated MTBF of the CM1000EC is 40,000 hours per MIL-HDBK-217F in a naval sheltered environment, while electromagnetic compatibility meets the CE101 and CE102 requirements of MIL-STD-461D. All versions can meet shock specifications for MIL-S-901, and vibration specs for MIL-STD-167.

Nominal size is 10.12 x 6.00 x 2.14 in. and weight is less than 8 pounds.
