FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., 12 Feb. 2014. Guests traveling on Silver Airways’ U.S. domestic flights aboard its fleet of Saab 340B Plus aircraft now have the FAA-approved option to safely use portable electronic devices (PEDs) throughout their entire trip.
“We are pleased to let our guests know that the FAA has approved the safe use of portable electronic devices aboard our Saab domestic flights,” says Silver Airways Chief Commercial Officer Travis Christ. “Providing a safe and enjoyable guest experience are our core priorities, and the implementation of this new program gives our guests the opportunity to safely enjoy their PEDs from gate to gate.”
Guests are allowed to use PEDs from gate to gate unless otherwise instructed by a crewmember. Small devices, such as smartphones, tablets, e-readers, or handheld computer games, must be in airplane mode or with the cellular service disabled. Guests are asked to hold these items or put them in the seat-back pocket during takeoff and landing.
The FAA recently determined that airlines can safely expand passenger use of PEDs during all phases of flight, and Silver has implemented this program with the FAA’s approval. Previously, passengers were required to turn off and stow all electronic devices during taxi, takeoff, and landing, and when the aircraft was below 10,000 feet.
The new PED program does not apply to flights aboard Silver’s Beech 1900 aircraft, in which PED use is prohibited.
