ITT shows Cannon ruggedized locking coupling technology at FIA14
FARNBOROUGH, England, 14 July 2014. ITT Corp. (NYSE:ITT) is showcasing an expanded Cannon brand portfolio of customized interconnect solutions at the Farnborough International Airshow.
ITT Cannon’s K-Lock Ultra High Vibration Locking Coupling System provides aircraft manufacturers with a locking coupling “twist and lock” mechanism designed to reduce the possibility of decoupling during exposure to extreme high shock and vibration environments. The system offers superior resilience to shock, vibration, and harsh environmental exposure with a design that can withstand more than 100 g of shock, 2,000 Hz of vibration, and up to 2,000 hours of exposure to salt spray, officials say.
The coupling mechanism is a sliding ratcheting coupling nut that securely locks in position when mated, delivering unmatched reliability to critical connections. With a twist of the coupling nut, the connector can easily be coupled and locked in position similar to a standard 38999 series III connector. Once coupled and tightened in position, the coupling nut is locked in position eliminating the need for pinning or wiring of the coupling nut and helping ensure it cannot decouple. The system can easily decouple when needed with a simple “pull and twist” release action mechanism. In addition, the inclusion of stainless steel components provides rugged resistance to corrosion in exposed environments. The ITT Cannon K-Lock Ultra High Vibration Locking Coupling System is engineered to stay connected and endure in the harshest shock, vibration and exposure environments.
“At ITT we have a long legacy of innovation and interconnect leadership spanning nearly a century,” says Tom Cruz, vice president and general manager, aerospace and defense with ITT’s Interconnect Solutions business. “Cannon’s connector industry ‘firsts’ in the aviation market include aviation circulars, d-subs, micros, fiber optic assemblies and zero insertion force technologies, to name a few. We continue to execute delivering our next generation of innovative technologies by introducing the Cannon K-Lock Ultra High Vibration Locking Coupling System and providing the global aviation industry a customized engineering solution keeping critical applications connected in the harshest environments.”
ITT is also highlighting a portfolio of custom interconnects that are lightweight, reliable, ruggedized, and efficient, says a spokesperson. These customized solutions help manufacturers optimize weight requirements to reduce fuel costs, increase communication data bandwidth and ensure critical systems operate reliably and efficiently.
ITT is located in Hall 4, Stand A11.
