Parker Aerospace launches integrated oil system for next-generation aircraft

FARNBOROUGH, England, 15 July 2014. Parker Aerospace, a business segment of Parker Hannifin Corp., is developing an integrated engine lubrication system that simplifies system design and operation while reducing weight and package size on next-generation helicopters and small-engine aircraft.

Building on decades of experience in producing engine lubrication system components, such as oil pumps, reservoirs, filters, sensors, and coolers, Parker has combined the various components into a single integrated component package, simplifying the aircraft engine’s design and cutting weight by up to 25 percent, officials say.

“Smaller aircraft engines and helicopters are excellent opportunities for taking advantage of our new integrated lubrication system. This is due to their compact configuration and the proximity of components,” explains Manuel Bajaksouzian, vice president and general manager of Parker Aerospace’s Gas Turbine Fuel Systems Division. “The integrated system is not only lighter, but reliability is excellent and maintenance is greatly simplified because the various, typically separate, components required for engine lubrication are replaced with only one.”

The Parker integrated lubrication system, while designed specifically for each engine, uses the same basic configuration combining reservoir, pump, filters, and sensors as one part. A conformal oil cooler can be added and subcomponents are easily accessed and replaced on a flight line.

“Parker is the only company with the design and production capability to offer an integrated system when a next-generation aircraft requirement allows it,” Bajaksouzian says.
