ALPHARETTA, Ga., 8 Aug. 2014. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is hosting the 2014 National Systems, Software, and Airborne Electronic Hardware Conference, co-sponsored by Logicircuit in Alpharetta, Ga., and LDRA in Wirral, U.K. This year’s conference, to be held 23-25 Sept. 2014 in Los Angeles, Calif., connects industry members and regulators to discuss recent significant changes to policy and practice in aircraft systems, software, and hardware.

In the past, the FAA held the government-sponsored conference annually, until the schedule changed due to budget challenges. 2014 marks the first year that the FAA has added sponsors from industry – this year’s sponsors are LDRA and Logicircuit.

“Systems” is also a bigger part of the agenda this year, notes Michelle Lange, director of marketing and sales at Logicircuit. Formerly, the event focused largely on software and airborne electronic hardware; yet, with ARP 4754A being recently recognized and implemented and ARP 4761A being finalized (Systems Development and System Safety guidance developed in the SAE S-18/EUROCAE WG-63 committees), the linkage between systems and items (i.e., hardware and software) from a certification perspective is taking on greater significance, she adds.

A similar industry-sponsored event, called Certification Together International Conference (CTIC) and held in the European Union (EU) roughly every 12 to 18 months (http://www.certification-together.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73&Itemid=80), has been growing in attendance and scope, Lange explains. The next CTIC is scheduled for Feb. 2015.
